In my research I work at the intersections of economics, sociology and philosophy. I pursue a research approach that puts tangible phenomena center stage. My choice of methods always follows the demands of the subject-matter at hand, not the other way around. This often leads to the integration of crucial social science innovations of the 20th and 21st centuries – such as the cultural, performative or pictoral turns – into my economic research.
I understand the economy as a process of social provisioning, that manifests itself in lived human practices that are principally always alterable, but typically follow institutionalised, historically grown patterns.
My research interests include:
- Institutions of economic thought and praxis and their transformation
- Philosophy and History of the Economy and Economics
- Foundations, Contents and Didactics of new economic education
I approach them by means of the following methods:
- interpretative/abductive methodologies (Documentary method, praxeological typisation, discourse analysis among others)
- hermeneutic/genealogical approaches (study and comparison of primary sources, deep reading, archive work among others)
- ethnographical/phenomenological approaches (field research, interview techniques, case studies, fotographic documentation, among others)

New Imaginative Economies

In the „New Imaginative Economies“ research project, we used a Sensemaking © approach to investigate whether and how spontaneous entrepreneurial behavior during the Covid-19 pandemic led to social innovations and how this can contribute to lasting change, for example in the way agents imagine the future and deal with radical uncertainty.

In the context of the ongoing debate on the need for reform of economic education, the project focused on the students’ perspective. In cooperation with a team from the Goethe University in Frankfurt, a mixed-methods survey was conducted to investigate student orientations and ways of dealing with economics programs in Germany and Austria.
